   Jackie Mead, Exclusive Family Paralegal

I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada.  I met my husband while attending the University of Nevada, Reno, from where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English.  I have lived in Reno my entire life, with the exception of moving to Phoenix, Arizona for two years and then Rocklin, California for a year and a half.  The economy forced my husband and me to move from Reno as he is a golf course superintendent; however, our hearts always remained in Reno and last year we finally got the opportunity to move back.  Reno is where we want to raise our two children as I believe it is an amazing community with great people.

While living in California, I attended MTI College where I obtained my Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies.  It was an incredibly difficult year, as I was also working full time and raising two small children, but the effort was well worth the education I received from MTI.  I have been working in law firms in one capacity or another since 1999.  After I graduated from UNR, I worked for a bankruptcy firm in Reno, Nevada as the Paralegal/Office Manager.  I worked there for almost six years until my husband and I moved to Phoenix.  I have over ten years of experience as a Paralegal and I truly love what I do for a living.

I loved bankruptcy law as it allowed me to work with people and help them through one of the most difficult times of their lives.  At the height of 2010, most of our clients were people who never dreamed they would be filing for bankruptcy.  Since finding my way to family law, I have discovered that all of the aspects I loved about bankruptcy law are very similar in family law.  Most of our clients that come to see us are in a place of disbelief and confusion.  It is my job to be compassionate and guide our clients through the rough waters of divorce and/or custody issues.  I take extreme pride in making a very difficult life situation a little bit easier for our clients.  With the constant support of our attorneys, the Paralegals at this firm are incredibly experienced, caring, and compassionate towards our client’s situation.  We are empathetic to our clients, explain the process to them and are sometimes a shoulder to cry on.

Marilyn York’s office is incredibly unique.  I have worked for many different law firms in various states, and the level of expertise, compassion, and care that goes into our cases is unlike anything I have ever experienced.  It is an amazing place to work with incredible attorneys and staff.  I have had many clients express the very same gratitude I have for this firm.
